sypnosis//
a short 8mins documentary on longboarding -produced in NYC at Parsons New School of Design.

the full synopsis//
One unforgettable summer in 2009, I took a 2 months sabbatical leave from Ogilvy Singapore to pursue my un-acquainted curiosity and interest in film and sound design. I packed my bag n headed for a summer intensive course on "Sound and Vision" at Parsons in NYC and produced a sound design piece, and my mini virgin film project. We are to do a short film on any sub-culture topics in NYC. When approached to work on the topic of "longboarding", despite owning a pair of left-feet, I gladly said yes to my long-boarder Urguayan partner Manuel Branaa (who is now in NY Film Academy).

We produced, shot and edited the film in one week. it was one of my most intense yet rewarding and exhilarating experience. The outcome? Raw and imperfect. Just the way we had expected, and embraced it. It reminded me that not everything needs to be skin-deep perfect. Having an amateur mind again allows you connect with your innate childlike creativity. It was about finding beauty in making mistakes, than to be constantly looking for flaws in beauty.

*I went back Singapore to quit my job at Ogilvy after my 2 months in NYC. This was the definitive turning point of my life then.
I could no longer deny to my immense desire for change.

produced, filmed and edited by//
Manuel Branaa & Pebbles D. Lim

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

bonus track//
My sound design project, with daily sounds collected and recorded from New York City. Also done with Manuel Branaa.

sound concept//
Finding harmony in chaos. Through re-arranging patterns.

note//
Words recited by a street poet we met, sitting along the streets with her little typewriter. Fingers dancing swiftly on her typewriter, with any spontaneous word you can give her.

About Today

Last of the dark gray days was yesterday
melting into a new groove
boiled out of the old
speaking a new sound
grasping at old straws
hands tied firmly to here and now
taking the form of a passing cloud

sypnosis//
In my Ogilvy years, one of my main accounts was Comfort - Unilever. As an ardent fan of Toy Story, it was a Pixar-fantasy come true working with these animated cloth characters, primarily for the south-east-asian market. The brand imported its ‘Clothworld’ animated characters from overseas but adapted the theme to suit the local market. In December 2006 a multimedia campaign launched depicting the wedding of Andy and Lily, the two characters in the ads. I did through-the-line conceptualization, from tv-scripting (yes, i write too), to even creating facebook accounts for these cloth-rockstars.

synopsis//
In the "Exploring Technology" module in Hyper Island, we had to experiment the possibilities between creativity and technology. We built a time-machine in the form a classic arcade machine, that zapped away our MegaMan DJ of today into the 80's. To bring him back, you would have to be the ultimate DJ, scoring the crowd onto the dance-floor with your impeccable mixing skills. Oh yes, a time-machine.

The project caught many eyes at the tech-exhibition, and most said they would love to have one built in their homes or offices. We were later invited by Stopp Productions to their office, to have a casual creative discussion on how the eff we did this.

City Harvest NYC

brief//
To feed the hungry in NYC.

idea//
People are hungry out there? Nobody gives a shit, really. They only care about Facebook. So we thought while they spend some time thinking about what they eat, post and share on Facebook, they could turn them into real food for the hungry people instead.
